Do you hate school more than anything in the world, and you'd do just about anything to be able to stop going? But no matter how many times you beg, your parents won't consider unschooling or homeschooling for you?
Look at all these reasons kids often post about why they hate school...
I dislike school because...
I'm always fed up at school.
Homework is a huge total waste.
Lack of decent friends.
Having to awaken earlier.
Grades never truly evaluate thinking ability in the slightest degree.
It's tough to avoid irritating students in class.
Needing to commit to memory monotonous basic facts.
There are several quite unpleasant school teachers.
Plenty of school staff simply cannot show you things correctly.
I am frequently stressed out in class.
No one is usually allowed to leave.
While there are laws stating that you have to attend some kind of a school, they don't say that this school cannot be online, or at home.
But what if I told you it's possible for you to get all the silly classwork and nonsense over and done with as fast as you can, and that you'd then have the rest of the day (or week, depending on how you work) to do whatever is more important to you? This is possible with online high school, where you can do all the boring work over the internet, at home.
Finishing high school online might not be as interesting as homeschooling or unschooling, but it should be a lot easier to talk to your parents about, and if you work hard in short bursts of time you can get everything done quicker, which will leave you with more free time in which you can still educate yourself properly. You'll also still get a normal high school diploma from the online school, so there's nothing for your parents to really worry about.
As for the "socialization" arguments... how does sitting in a classroom for several hours a day, being yelled at and told to shut up and not talk to your friends... how does that HELP with socialization? I can't imagine why anyone would think that'd be good for a person's social skills. By the way, homeschooled kids actually tend to do better in social settings.
Maybe after a while your parents will understand why getting out of school was so important to you, once they see that you're happier and less stressed. Then maybe they'll even be more open to other ideas, like unschooling. If they seem to look at you differently, it might be worth bringing up. Even if not, at least with online school you've saved yourself a lot of time.
